Conference Poster and words by Duda Penteado
America, America...
At the turn of the millennium...
Still cries...
Still fights...
Still ignores...
Still sounds... in the four corners of the earth.
America "MADRE" America.
Not longer, white, blue and red ...
A new sound...
A new color...
A new brush stroke...
yellow, mahogany, purple, scarlet, gold...
Latino...
Not longer only hands of hard labor...
But !!!!!! Lawyers, Jugdes, Doctors, Educators...
A Senator...
A Governor...
A voice shaping a new culture...
Latino, North America...
America Latina...
We are you...
We are Americans !!!!!!

The 2005 White House Conference on Aging will be held on December 11 - 14.
This important conference takes place only once every decade. It serves to formulate government policy on matters affecting the nation’s elderly. Our pre-cursor activities around the country and the culminating national pre-conference in New York City are key to ensuring that the unique perspective of the Latino elderly and their needs are appropriately represented and considered in the national White House Conference.
Mario Tapia, LGC’s President & CEO, winner of the 2003 New York Post’s Liberty Medal of Freedom expressed the following: “The pre-conference gatherings offer Latino seniors in targeted communities a vital opportunity to voice their concerns and a have a role in helping to shape policies that have a significant impact on them.”
The Latino Gerontological Center (LGC) was founded in 1991 to enhance the quality of life for the Latino elderly. This has been accomplished through educational programs, trainings and advocacy efforts. CGL has been extremely effective reaching hundreds of thousands of Latino elderly and their families in both Spanish and English speaking electronic and print media, thereby helping elderly as well as providing them a voice.
